For convenience, I have chosen to ignore the various U-Haul trucks I've driven. Bolded means it was my car; Italicized means family car.

  1. ok, 2 omments:

1 - i sold the go-kart, so i now have fewer registered vehicles than you've owned total. but only after selling said go-kart

2 - what's with the mentions that include a year range rather than a year? i've got a kawasaki that's built out of various year other bikes, so it's probably a '70-'74, but few people do that with a minivan

  2. The ranges are basically "I couldn't remember exactly what year, but I know what generation/body style it was." I suppose most would put a guess year and a question mark...

The only multi-year car I drove was my Baja beetle. It was a 71 body with 72 powertrain.

  3. why would you use the term 'powertrain' for one of those? i mean, sure, there are some pretty quick ones, but it's generally not the 'power' part of the power/weight equation at 'fault'

  4. Comedy answer: I'd use the term squirrelcage, but that's dedicated to the blower motor already!

Real answer: I was looking for shorthand for engine and transmission... the "How To Keep Your Volkswagen Alive Forever" book refers to the engines in the old VW Types as powerplant, so hey, when in Rome!

    God I miss that car.

  5. yeah, i know it's their term and all, i just think they need a word that implies less power than, say, 'power' in that usage. sure i want to dig up one of those things and make it do wheelies, but i don't see it happening anytime soon.
